Standing Firm in Our Values Amid Uncertainty

These are dark and uncertain times in the world of public health. As a family physician I feel a deep responsibility not only to provide medical care to the best of my abilities, but also to reassure you—our patients, our neighbors, and our friends—that our values are unwavering, even as the world shifts around us.
Since the day we opened our doors in November 2023, a poster has hung in our entryway that reads:
We believe Black lives matter. No human is illegal. Love is love. Women’s rights are human rights. Science is real. Water is life. Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.

These are not just words—they are the foundation of how we practice medicine, how we build community, and how we care for every person who walks through our door.
At Clear Health DPC, we love and protect all members of our community—regardless of race, immigration status, gender identity, or political beliefs. We believe healthcare is a human right, and we are committed to providing compassionate, evidence-based care in a safe, affirming environment.
Your Privacy Is Sacred
In a time when trust can feel scarce, I want to be clear: your privacy is a cornerstone of our care model. Because we operate under a direct primary care structure, your medical information—including diagnoses, prescriptions, and visit details—is never shared with employers, insurance companies, Medicaid, Medicare, or government agencies unless we are legally compelled to by a court-ordered subpoena. We are proud to serve as trusted stewards of your health information, and we take that role seriously.
A Troubling Shift at the Federal Level
We cannot ignore the broader context in which we are practicing medicine. Recent developments at the federal level are deeply troubling for many of us who work in healthcare:
Proposed cuts to Medicaid and Medicare threaten to limit access to care for our most vulnerable populations. As more people lose access to primary and preventative care we will see hospitalizations and ER utilization go up, and local/county/state taxes used to offset the bill for these otherwise preventable diseases. Medical debt is already the leading cause of bankruptcy in America, and these proposed cuts will make that even worse.
Rhetoric from public figures like RFK Jr, who have promoted dangerous misinformation about vaccines and public health, undermines science and erodes public trust. This trend is largely responsible for the first measles related deaths and hospitalizations in decades - something younger doctors like myself read about in text books but have never diagnosed. If you or your family have any hesitancy towards vaccines I encourage you to have a discussion with us before trusting politicians, celebrities, and influencers (all with glaring conflicts of interest) with important decisions that impact your health, and that of our community - especially the infants and immunocompromised cancer, transplant, and autoimmune friends and neighbors around us.
Bans on abortion in several states are resulting in direct patient harms and represent a disturbing violation of bodily autonomy. While people can have their own opinions on this topic, we believe these types of decisions belong between patient and doctor. The politicians that are inserting themselves into these decisions are traumatizing and killing women that have complications with their desired pregnancies. Many of which have to be transferred out of state to receive standard of care treatment once they are in a life threatening condition - often at tax payer expense.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents have been reported to detain or attempt to deport patients in and around medical settings—turning places of healing into sources of fear for immigrant families. We believe the money and time used separating families should be put towards going through a decades long back log of individuals seeking asylum. We proudly strive to improve the health of our entire community, regardless of their documentation status.
We are watching a federal administration and allied interests wage a war on science, education, bodily autonomy, and access to evidence-based healthcare and information. These actions do not align with our values, and they pose real risks to the well-being of our patients and our community.
Advocacy and Hope
At Clear Health DPC, we are committed to resisting these harmful changes—not only by continuing to care for each of you with the dignity and privacy you deserve, but also by advocating for the communities most impacted by these systemic shifts.
We know that as healthcare becomes more politicized, premiums may rise, coverage may shrink, and many may fall through the cracks. We want to be a refuge for those individuals. If you know someone who is struggling to access care, please connect them with us. Take extra cards after our visits, share our blog and social media posts, and help us build a network of trust and support. We have the capacity to serve a few hundred more patients, and once we are full we will hire another like minded physician to extend our capacity and serve more of our community.
A Safe Place, Always
More than anything, I want to assure you that Clear Health DPC is a safe place. We are here for you. We will stand by you. We will listen, and we will continue to build a practice rooted in empathy, equity, and community.
If you are a current patient and feel threatened by or disagree with anything discussed in this post, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me directly at NickJonesMD@ClearHealthDPC.com. We welcome honest dialogue and are happy to answer any questions you may have. And if we cannot reconcile our differences, we will respectfully assist with a smooth transition of your care and provide you with referrals to other clinics.
The Power of Community
In the face of uncertainty, we believe in the power of community. We believe in supporting one another. We believe in building something better together—something rooted in kindness, justice, and shared humanity. That belief will guide us forward, no matter what lies ahead.
With respect, love, and hope,
Dr. Nick Jones
